Have you ever wondered what a DNA means and what it does? You’re not alone in this situation but I do hope after reading this article , you will find all the answers that you seek. Everything that is in existence has a purpose and once you understand that you will get just the right information you need.

MEANING : According to Wikipedia, Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) is a molecule composed of two chains ( made of nucleotides) which coil around each other to form a double helix carrying the genetic instructions used in the growth ,development , functioning and reproduction of all known living organisms and many viruses.

What does a DNA do ?
A DNA contains the vital instructions needed for an organism to develop , survive and reproduce but before all these functions can be carried out , its sequences must be converted into messages that can be used to produce proteins , which are the complex molecules that do most of the work in our system.

• A sugar ( deoxyribose) : Its name shows that it is a deoxy sugar and it means it is gotten from the sugar ribose by loss of an oxygen atom.
• A negatively charged phosphate group : this means that the sugar phosphate forms the structural framework of nucleic acids which allows the DNA backbone to form bonds with water.

IMPORTANCE OF DNA : This unique design was not just created to fill a vacuum but for it to serve a purpose that is beneficial for humans.
• It is vital for all living things including plants .
• It is important for inheritance
• It is responsible for coding for proteins and the genetic instruction guide for life and its processes.
• It holds the instructions for an organism.
• It is responsible for the development of cells , reproduction and ultimately death.
