Social anxiety disorder (more than just shyness)

Social anxiety disorder is known as social phobia. People with social anxiety disorder are fearful in social settings.

People with this disorder are known to have trouble speaking to people, attending social gatherings. Social anxiety disorder is different from shyness

Signs and symptoms of social anxiety disorder

  • Fear that others will notice that you look anxious
  • Intense fear of interacting or speaking with strangers
  • Avoidance of doing things or speaking to people out of fear or embarrassment
  • Fear of physical symptoms that may bring embarrassment such as sweating, trembling, or a shaky voice
  • Avoidance of making eye contact
  • Avoidance of eating before others
  • Muscle tension
  • Fear of starting a conversation
  • The expectation of the worst possible consequences from negative experience during a social situation
  • Analysis of your performance and identification of flaws in your interactions after a social situation
  • Being very afraid, people will judge them
