4. College of Medicine, University of Nigeria

The College of Medicine of the University of Nigeria was established in 1982. It provides outstanding medical education through its faculty, institutes, staff, programs, centres of excellence, and affiliates.

The College of Medicine has developed into one of the most excellent medical schools in Nigeria. It provides top-notch medical education. This college has many affiliated hospitals; the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, National Orthopaedic Hospital and, National Neuropsychiatric Hospital.

The College of Medicine of the University of Nigeria is the only college of medicine in Nigeria that operates three medical institutes. The institutes are the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Infectious Diseases, Public Health, and the Institute of Maternal and Child Health.

2. College of Medicine, University of Lagos

The College of Medicine of the University of Lagos came into being as a Medical School in 1962. It provides highly trained medical professionals to provide specialized medical services and conduct research into health-related problems.

The first batch of medical students (about 28) got admitted into the College, and they received their first lectures on October 3, 1962. Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) is attached to the College of Medicine, the University of Lagos, and provides medical students with experience through placement and work experience. LUTH is the largest Teaching Hospital in Nigeria.

The College has been working with the Harvard School of Public Health on APIN Project since early 2000. Presently LUTH and the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos collaborate with Harvard and Northwestern University on capacity building through the Building Research and Innovation in Nigeria’s Science (BRAINS) proposal.

The College has grown amazingly. It now has three faculties: Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, and Dental Sciences. The Faculty of Dental Sciences is today the centre of Excellence for Dentistry in Nigeria.
